Science Rocks!

This week we learned about physical and chemical changes in matter with a song in our heart (and in front of the class as well).

Last week we did a lab about chemical and physical changes in which the kids were able to observe the differences and properties of the two. On Monday, they used a variety of sources, including text and videos, to help them further understand the topic.

On Tuesday students were told that they were members of a science-based super band that had been on a break for two years. Trying to increase excitement for their new album, their band was releasing the front and back cover of their album and the lyrics of their latest hit about chemical and physical changes.

Then, Tuesday through Thursday, bands worked on the project. Students were asked to name their groups (something based in science) their new album (based on matter or chemical and physical changes), and create 5 songs which reflected their understanding of chemical and physical changes. Then, they had to write a song (either their own creation or a variation of a current song) about chemical and physical changes.

Finally, on Friday, students were able to present their albums and, in many cases, perform their songs.

I could not have been more impressed with the creativity and enthusiasm of my scientific rock stars. The group and album were almost as creative as the songs titles and the lyrics. Please ask your kids what they came up with, there are too many to share, but certainly are worth hearing about. Below are the pictures of all of the bands in their rock star poses. Enjoy!
